Each trumpet solo listed below has been assigned a grade level of 1–10 (with 10 being the most difficult) to help assist in programming recitals. If you would like a solo to be added that is not currently included, email me and I will add it.
Please employ the “plus or minus one” rule to this grading rubric. Many solos could be listed in two different categories. So if a solo is listed as a 5, someone else may categorize it as a 6 or a 4, depending on his or her experience and/or playing ability.
1 - Beginner 2 - Middle School 3 - Early High School 4 - Middle High School 5 - Late High School/Early College
6 - Early College 7 - Late College 8 - Graduate/Pre-Professional 9 - Professional 10 - Virtuoso

For a typical college music major senior recital, I recommend choosing repertoire from a variety of grades. For example, if you have three solos, I’d recommend the following grades: 5-5-6, 5-5-7, 5-6-7, etc. But certainly, NOT 6-7-7 or 7-7-7—that is too much pressure! Good luck!
